As we approach the Summer season, apt.Design is making the most of the sunshine to get out and about in the city of London to see the latest exhibitions. Here’s what’s on our agenda…
250th Summer Exhibition: Art Made Now @ Royal Academy of Arts
12 June – 19 August 2018, Burlington House, Piccadilly, Mayfair, London W1J 0BD
Each year the RA hosts the Summer Exhibition where hundreds of artworks are selected and exhibited. Expect to see established artist’s work hung alongside new up and coming artworks. This year, for the 250th Summer Exhbition, Grayson Perry will be coordinating the exhibition which is really exciting! The RA have said this will be ‘the biggest, brightest and most colourful Summer Exhibition yet,’ there will even be the addition of a ‘room of humour.’ We have a feeling we’ll be visiting more than once…We’ll report back!
Bernard Frize: Blackout in the Grid @ Simon Lee
17 May – 30 June 2018, 12 Berkeley St, Mayfair, London W1J 8DT
After loving the Toby Ziegler: Post-Human Paradise exhibition back in 2016, where LED screens showed digital images that Ziegler sourced through Google image searches and applied progressive pixellation to depict abstraction reminiscent of Mattisse, we thought it high time we take another visit. There is real artistic discourse surrounding Frize’s work as the project seeks to reduce painting to its most fundamental elements. Definitely one to visit to truly engage with the work and the conversation.
